The Purpose of "The Walk for Health Care"
The Tompkins County Health Care Task Force
will walk across the state of New York to promote a government
insurance program like an improved "Medicare for All" that insures all
residents in the United States with essential health care. We are
hoping New York will lead the way, and to do this we must make our
representatives accountable to the peoples concerns and wishes.
The purpose of the walk is:
We hope to make as many contacts as possible to help
us work together, more closely and more informally, for a single-payer
health care system not only for New York, but the United States.
We hope to help empower the people to make our New
York representatives accountable for a dysfunctional health care
system, And to explore why they have not acted for reform when there is
so much wrong with our health care and so many people are suffering.
Our plan is to spend at least a day in each of the
cities we will travel through, to share knowledge and take action on
ways to create political will to give New York and the United States a
single payer health care system.
We have worked for health care reform since 1990. We
understand health care in America thoroughly, the system, the problems
its causing, the solutions proposed, and the solutions that will solve
its problems. We also understand other health care system in
industrialized nations, the truths and the myths that has kept most
Americans supporting a failing health care system.
Looking forward to meeting new faces, sharing knowledge, and working together.
Sincerely,
Rebecca & Bernie

WALK FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM Hi Friends, The Tompkins County Health Care Task Force is planning a walk for health care reform for the United States and New York. We will start in Kingston with a kick off rally and we will walk from Delhi
to Jamestown. We hope to have a rally, town-meeting or just
increase our contacts in the towns we come to. The route we will take is from Kingston, to Delhi, Oneonta, Norwich, Cinncinatus, Cortland, Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Elmira, Corning, Bath, Hornell, Cuba, Olean, Salamanca and Jamestown. We are hoping to have a rally, town-meeting and make contacts in each of these communities. We will take a bus back to Owego, walk to Binghamton, take a bus back to Ithaca and walk to Auburn, Waterloo and Geneva. We are in the process of setting up a rally/town-meeting in Kingston NY to start our trip. The time for action is now: with the proposal for New York to set up a commission to study a health care plan for NY, a re-introduction of the Gottfried bill for universal health care, cuts in medicaid, concerns about the Presciption Drug Law, and of course the need to reform New York's very dysfunctional health care system. We will also be supporting John Conyers Bill 676 for a National Universal/Single Payer Health Care Plan as well as pointing out that it is NOT Social Security that is in crisis, it is our Health Care System that is in Crisis. Our goal is to make our politicians accountable, we know what we want and we must generate some political will to respond to the many people going without health care coverage, food and/or medicine.
This walk will also be a tribute to Granny D who inspired us
and for all her courage and compassion.Help us to bring a
system like "Medicare for All" to New York. On June 11th with a kickoff rally is planned in Kingston at 10:00 am . on the Village Green with Maurice Hinchey as keynote speaker. WE WILL WALK INTO ITHACA Tuesday JUNE 21ST FROM DRYDEN - LATE AFTERNOON AND A RALLY WILL BE HELD ON THE COMMONS BERNIE MILTON PAVILION 7:00 P.M. WE WILL HAVE SPEAKERS, SINGERS AND FUN - PLEASE JOIN US TO WALK AND AT THE RALLY. If you would like to join us for part of this walk, would like to help organize an event for this or have contacts in any of these communities please call us Rebecca Elgie -(607)272-0621 Or Bernie Fetterly cell 273-1622 or contact us at healthylink@earthlink.net -to get updates or post messages once we start walking see our BLOG
